The Path of
Insouciance

A living practice for finding ease in everyday life

We are a community of people who practise together — breathing, noticing, and learning to work gently with the natural energies that move through every human body.

"The beginning is not a place. It is a quality of attention."

A Beginner's Guide

You are here because something led you here. Perhaps a friend's quiet recommendation, or a name half-glimpsed in passing, or something less tangible — a persistent feeling, like a word on the tip of your tongue that you have never actually learned.

Insoucianism is not a religion in the way that word is commonly understood. We have no prophet, no fixed scripture, and no commandments. What we offer is a living practice: a set of tools, perspectives, and shared disciplines for working with the subtle energies that move through every human body.

The word insouciance comes from the French, meaning a lightness of concern — a freedom from anxiety. Not indifference. Not apathy. But the deep ease that arises when one stops grasping at outcomes and begins to dwell fully in the texture of the present moment.

Your First Practice: The Settling

This is our simplest exercise. It takes less than five minutes and asks nothing of you but sincerity.

Find your seat. Sit comfortably. Let your spine be straight but not rigid. Rest your hands on your thighs. Close your eyes or soften your gaze.
Three breaths. Take three slow, deliberate breaths. With each out-breath, release tension: first from the shoulders, then the belly, then the legs and feet.
Arrive. Sit quietly for a moment. Notice the quality of your body. Heavy or light? Warm or cool? There is no correct answer. You are simply arriving.

Many people find that practising this once a day gradually changes the quality of their attention in ways they didn't expect.

If this speaks to you, explore further. Read about the Five Eases that guide our practice, or try one of our visual exercises. If it doesn't speak to you, we wish you well with genuine warmth. We have no interest in persuading anyone.

We simply keep the door open.
